Located near the very cute Richmond neighborhood of Carytown, the University of Richmond sits on a large and peaceful campus and offers its students a tight-knit community, challenging courses, and a dedicated faculty (no TAs here). Although UR is just shy of 3,000 undergraduate students, it feels much bigger. That could be due to the university’s D1 athletics, its incredibly involved student body (our tour guide balances academics, internships, study abroad, ballet and music!), or its commitment to engaging students with the world outside UR. Through the Bonner Center for Civic Engagement, students can participate in the larger Richmond community by registering for Community Based Learning (or CBL) courses that integrate classroom learning with community needs or by volunteering to mentor local K-12 students. The university offers over 60 majors including the unique, multidisciplinary Leadership Studies major. In your time at UR as a Spider, you’ll have the opportunity to do a 101 things, and in a lot of cases, you’ll be able to do almost all of them.
