A few numerical things we thought were really cool about the College of William and Mary, a small (6,000 undergrads), public liberal arts research university in colonial (amazingly historic and quite adorable) Williamsburg, VA:
70% of students do undergraduate research
60 majors (including a very strong business program and other pre-professional options)
35% of students are from outside VA
50 pancake houses to try
23 Division 1 sports (and lots of school pride)
... and the 2nd oldest school in the US
Beyond the numbers: W&M offers a unique 2-year joint program with the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, where students can study economics, English, history or international relations at both schools. As a William and Mary alum you’d be joining Thomas Jefferson (you can take classes in the building he attended) and John Stewart (and numerous notable others), in a rigorous education grounded in the liberal arts designed to challenge and engage. If you come, bring your L.L. Bean boots, your commitment to W&M’s honor code (dates back to 1736), and a willingness to sample those pancake houses.
