Florida Southern College (FSC) is located in Lakeland, Florida - so named for the 40 lakes in the area. It has a beautiful campus, right on a lake (of course) with a meditation garden and 13 Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings! One of the oldest private colleges in Florida, FSC is a residential school with 2500 undergraduates and few graduate students. Like many small schools, they offer many hands on learning and research opportunities in connection with over 50 majors. They also take advantage of their surrounding area by offering a degree in Citrus and an excellent marine biology program. Undergraduate students in these programs and across the curriculum have had their research published and get strong letters of recommendation from their professors for graduate school. FSC also has a strong nursing program with an impressive lab, and a new dance major. They have three guarantees: study abroad, graduating in four years and having at least one internship. They also offer many service learning opportunities. 35% of the students are involved in Greek life, and over 50% participate in intramural sports, including a Rock, Paper and Scissors team. They have a DI water ski team, but the rest of their sports are DII, and the college has the 3rd most successful DII program in the country with 28 National Championships. Their Discover Florida series allows FSC students to explore Florida through fun field trips and excursions. They are looking for students who are going to make impact at FSC and beyond. They admitted 45% of their applicants last year. Their incoming students have 1134 average SAT, 26 average ACT, and GPA of 3.6. They are on rolling admissions and they super score.
